Chilly Gonzales & Jarvis Cocker "tearjerker"
I know Cocker from UK Britpop band Pulp...
Gonzales is a Canadian classical composer...
first up single taken from the new album "room 29"...
the write up basically says "what if a hotel room could sing about
the events it had witnessed?!"...
wasn't sure about this song when I read about it, but I really like it...
could be something up Jerome, Ruby and Bob_32's alley!!!

Iâve heard Chilly before and this is a beautiful piece of music but this is neither his nor Cockerâs creation.
It sounds soooo similar to Ryuichi Sakamotoâs âBibo no Aozoraâ!?! I donât get it. Is it a purposeful ripoff??
If so, I canât help thinking itâs in appallingly poor taste.
One of the most gorgeous pieces ever written for film IMHO (Sakamotoâs that is, followed by Santaolallaâs âEndless Flightâ).

I am glad you mentioned Sakamoto, Ruby! A musical genius in my books! A shout out to the J Man for recommending him!

its funny you mentioned that Ruby because ive just read a similar thing in the UK music press and they cant seem to work out whether its an intentional thing out of respect or not, but theyre not impressed with either artist...
well done for picking up on it.

Seems as though Sakamoto does receive credit on the album after all! In fact, it appears he is a guest artist ⦠at least according to this article ...

thanks Ruby....I guess it validates the similarity to the other song and vindicates them of ripping it off.
I did like that linked track in the OP and still looking foreward to hearing the album in its entirety.

Yes, exactly.
I am convinced that the road to hell is paved, not with good intentions, but with assumptions. Should probably remind myself of that occasionally, instead of taking giant leaps to wrong conclusions!! Lol!
The vocal and the lyrical content in the first link is not much to my taste, but itâs obviously not something Sakamoto struggles with himself. I suspect it is not intended to be âlikedâ, per se.
I too am curious about the rest of this album â¦
