The 1 billion dollars man
#1
Me and one of my friend were discussing about some great idea:

Imagine a really rich man announced this:

"I will give 1 billion dollars to the person who come up with a new, unheard sound in music"

From the day I discussed this, I can't stop wondering what kind of music would be the winning song??!!

Would not this contest be the funniest thing to happen to the world of music?

All these composers, musicians digging the deepest part of their mind trying to find this new music!!!

It would be awesome. I wish something like this could happen...

Interesting thought.

The truth is that there are artists out there that are doing this as we speak. Unfortunately, revolutionary music is never really mainstream, so unless we search it out tirelessly, we probably won't find it...

What does anyone else think ??

How long have we had the ability to record sounds? I'm sure there have lots of different sounds in music before recording was invented, would these count? It may be a silly question since if the do count then nobody would know that lives today, but worth asking.

Still, some might argue that all sounds in music are different. Personally, I'd put together a band and we would make our own instruments and try to put together some kind of good sounding song or something. As if it wasn't hard inventing a new sound in music, I doubt it would even be possible with the instruments we have today since so many people have played them and experimented with them so much.

I have to agree with Tiggi that most revolutionary, or new perhaps, music never is mainstream. It's too bad record companies are all about making money, if they weren't, they'd probably let people with different sound make records. The problem is that they risk recording something that sounds different and since it does sound different, fewer people will buy it.

I never saw a Austin Power movie. Maybe my friend saw one and picked this idea somewhere in these films...

I don't know.
