One of those fascinating fringe characters with real talent and a blazing moment. He's got a '96 live album covering early R&R (from Ronnie Scott's Club in London--a premier venue). Love somebody to put some money and muscle behind reviving his career--dude's got the voice and something to say. I particularly like "Highway Robbery".

Sadly Alvin Stardust, previously known as Shane Fenton, recently died of metastatic prostate cancer, aged 72. He was planning another comeback, but his illness was swift.

Last night my local radio station broadcast an extract from an interview with Alvin Stardust, real name Bernard Jewry, recorded about a month ago, in which he described going to see Buddy Holly in Mansfield in 1958. He said he was about 15-years-old, took his guitar with him and met Buddy Holly, who asked what he could play. The young Bernard played Peggy Sue and Buddy Holly sang along. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-29741028

That, folks, is a transcendent moment to a young player and why I support those musicians showing this generosity of spirit. Appreciate the story, Big Ears--keep'm coming.

Miss the great Guy..

Bernard William Jewry (27 September 1942 – 23 October 2014), known as Alvin Stardust, was an English pop singer and stage actor. Performing first as Shane Fenton, Stardust's stage and screen career spanned over a half-century. He is best known for singles released in the 1970s and 1980s, including "My Coo Ca Choo", the UK Singles Chart-topper "Jealous Mind", and "I Feel Like Buddy Holly".
