Mashups: Aye or Nay?
#1
I’m just gonna get right to the point, without much hoppin’ around.

I’ve been listening to (and collecting) mashups for about a year or so now, and I visit one of my favorite mashups sites every once in a while to update that collection.

Correct me if I’m missing an element or to, but my definition of a mashup is more or less:
“A song that consists of two or more previously released songs that are merged, or “mashed” together in a (usually) harmonious way.”

With that out of the way, the purpose for posting this thread is to ask for the Forum’s general opinion(s) on them.

Do/have you ever listen/listened to mashups before?
What do you think of mashups?
What are your opinions on the legality of mashups?
Are you for/against them, or even just neutral?
Etc.

Obviously this isn’t restricted to the above questions.

Simply curious about what people think. That’s all.

guess that's what the vs. is for that I see all the time
used to be called a sample, or is that different?

For me the answer is nay - when an artist paints a picture he wants it to stay that way. We don't need a clown coming along and spraying graffiti over the Mona Lisa now do we?
