Teasing aside, once a teacher told me "imagine you work with me and there's a party and suddenly the lights go out. Which 10 songs could you play by heart in the darkness"? My answer reached 5!

Hey Leo,

Thanks for the thread! I am studying to become a music educator and really found that link to be helpfulmile: I came from a high school where we did not really do standards (I have no idea if it is still like that or not) or even teach the chord work or form behind the charts. This gives me an idea of standards to look into and know for my future students!

Great Thread, and not just for educators or players. If somebody asks you how to get up to speed on jazz from all eras, point'm to Sr. Lavera's list. No quibbles on the songs--all gems.
