Kathleen Edwards……………………………Voyageur
It’s been a while since we had our last offering but here is number sixty four…………………….
Track One Empty Threat :Light and happy start to the album, a 21[SUP]st[/SUP] century version of up tempo folk,. This easily accessible track soon has toes tapping and the lyrics buzzing around your head.
Track Two Chameloen comedian Subtle but light guitar work gets us into this track , clear voiced vocals, guide the lyrical content . The imagery is sharp and the wordsmith is working well to weave pictures that support the feel of this track.
Track Three A Soft Place To Land. Another delicately constructed track which delivers its message in a sensitive and evocative manner.
Track Four Change The Sheets Atmospheric beginning with prominent vocal , move us into a story about love and change. Nice use of keyboard at the end to suggest a mood!
Track Five House Full Of Empty Rooms A gentle count in starts this one, the track builds in emotional tension using a simple vocal and effective backing. There is a slight Celtic feel here, which ads to the poignancy of the track……………………
Track Six Mint Here , we have coined a heavier sound, still the vocal is central but the heavier feel gives this an interest ………………..A nice track this with a subtle feel.
Track Seven Sidecar Electronic backing to this catchy little track ! This could well be the single from the album and would do well!
Track Eight Pink Champagne This seems an appropriate title for review written at New Year. Reelections into the wine glass seems to be the theme of this soul, reflective ballad!
Track Nine Going To Hell Gentle track with flowing vocal style, gentle on the ear and simple in it’s meaning. The ending owes a little to Beautiful Boy by John Lennon!
Track Ten For The Record The last offering, slow and somber .
Not a bad little album, a little too down beat for me. The voice is good and the song writing strong. However, it did not stand out really from the crowd!
