What Are You Listening To?

[CRAZY-HORSE]

PAUL McCARTNEY  "the boys of dungeon lane"  cd  2026

his thirty-second post Beatles studio album
soft rock, pop-rock, easy listening, jazz and acoustic material
his voice isnt too bad on here so im expecting a hint of auto-tune
i dont have a problem with auto-tune if it is done subtly and discetely, im sure The Stones used it too on their new album.
of the fourteen tracks i think eight are passably and two are quite good but i dont love them with five i dislike
the album scores 1.7 from me which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

opening track which set the album off: Paul McCartney - As You Lie There (Audio) - YouTube

jaunty little duet with Ringo is the best track IMO:

JACKIE WILSON  "titan of soul"  cd boxset  1998

a recommendation from back int he day from our esteemed Tiggi.
a three cd box set comprising of around seventy tracks
first cd is comprised mainly of his soul/r+b/doo-wop/rock-pop songs
the second his jazzy/bluesy/crooner/ballad songs
and finally the third disk is full of his duets and collaborative efforts
his voice is almost operatic in places and as powerful as Roy Orbison in others
an excellent package covering his recording career from the late '50s through to the mid '70s
overall this one scores 2.4 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lets go for this one:

and this duet:

and who could forget his sublime version of Danny Boy

RICHARD MARX  "ultimate collection"  cd  2016

from Lynne's collection
an Aussie only release
i own a couple of singles from back in the day
nothing on here not to like
several i loved and several of his hits i had forgotten about
nice collection scoring 2.2 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite on this occasion (one i'd previously forgotten about)

LINDA RONSTADT  "the very best of....."  cd  2002

a revisit
always difficult to put her in a thread, shes, rock and coutnry, pop and easy listening, and so on
i thought here because easy listening and soft rock feels right on this occasion
so, a twenty one track compilation spanning 1967 through to 1993,
vast majority of tracks cover mid seventies thru mid eighties
a solid collection that stands up against the "greatest hits" of most great artists
album scores 2.6 from me meaning
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lets go for the one that started it all...

^Likewise wasn't sure where to put this one, and coincidentally really enjoyed Linda's track on here too.

JIMMY WEBB - Just Across the River

They don't make songwriters like this anymore. Thirteen most accomplished tracks and a nice warm listen for a rainy day. Yip - nearly mid-October and it's sweater weather - quite odd! Gotta say, the Jelly Bowl acquits himself well - and I know these are all tried and tested and that there are other much loved versions which may be preferred but honestly, it doesn't sound like there are any terrible missteps here to me, in terms of the collaborators chosen to feature on the various songs. It goes in the same category as Elton and Leon's The Union for me - in terms of listening pleasure. Sophisticated production too.
