Why isn't there a Reggae/Dub/Dancehall board?
#1
I want to talk about Lee "Scratch" Perry and Sizzla, but there isn't an appropriate board. Also, why isn't there a "World Music" (as ridiculous as that term is) board?

Yup, there is room for a further couple of boards. That's in the hands of AmberNectar, who runs the site...

I usually post anything Reggae/World related in the Jazz, Funk, & Blues section, as that's the closest fit for Rootsy music.

I'm a big fan of Scratch, so I'll see you there...

Why isn't there a noise/noise rock/shitgaze board?

I think this is a serious issue that needs to be adressed!! i really like reggea and stuff and there really isn't a place to put it. plus what about those bands that you can't classify? maybe a misc. genre should be created for things like that. i don't know how to send ambernecto a message so i can't reach her but if anybody could tell me how or could pass the word on i'd greatly appreciate it!!!!

I have brought this up in the past. As much as I detest the term "world music" that is what is needed. Maybe "folk" is a better term. Because that is what world music is, the folk music of different regions. The response I always get is there isn't enough interest. So... is there? The members asking for it right now are newbies. How does Steve know they are going to stick around?

I think there's room for at least another board, & I'm not going anywhere...

Not my call, though.

I'll probably stick around, especially now that the irritating "trial week" is over.

Apologies for the trial week thingy. Unfortunately the volume of spam that this site receives mean we need time to weed out spammers, which is what this measure is designed to do.

Glad you stuck with it...

Maybe the board can be the "America board" (to incorporate everything from Country down to Bossa Nova). I don't know where to talk about Latin music. I'm listening to a new album by Quantic And His Combo Barbaro right now. I don't know what "listening to now..." thread it fits in. From the press release:
Quote:On the crest of a burgeoning worldwide wave of interest in the lesser-tapped sources of music from the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa, Quantic and his new band, the Combo Bárbaro, are leading the charge. The stunning album, ‘Tradition In Transition’...will see this international cast of acclaimed musical creators fusing those rediscovered psychedelic, experimental and rhythmically rich sounds of the past with deep funk and soul elements, giving life to an explosive sonic snapshot of the eclectic and ever-evolving musical landscape of the Americas.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my late response. I have been a little busy in the personal side offline.

Interesting discussion, and something obviously needs to be done.

So as of today, two new boards will be intoduced; a reggae board..... We used to have a world music board on the 'old old MD'. But hey, lets try again.

Plus, please feel free to post ideas like this in the future, as it is helpful to know what members are wanting and how they can be provided.
With Regards...
