Have you ever remarked about an album - come on get it over with ?

A recommendation from someone who you trust for their musical taste, the fact everyone is talking about it or I have a lot of this artist's music so I'll buy another album by them since I know I'll like it !

You put the CD on and low and behold it kinna sucks !!!! You want to listen to the whole album just by some remote chance it grows on you and you end up liking it, No chance it still sucks so you listen but inside you're saying " Hurry up, please get it over with !!! ". Some of you without a doubt will say I listen to the first or a couple of tracks and stop it if I don't like it ! A very unpleasant experience !

I've had several experiences like this (however none from the MD member's recommendations !)

See previous post about Roger Water's 'Music From The Body'! A total disappointment.

I think the interweb has made it much, much easier to avoid this.

For years I had to rely on magazine reviews for albums to buy, and then had to match this with what record stores had in stock. I know it's always been possible to order anything which wasn't stocked, but this was never an easy experience.

The net gives me a huge amount of resources to check out reviews from a multitude of sources, although i tend to rely heavily on AllMusic. The appearance of free, legal streaming sites now means any album can be auditioned before purchase, so I should never end up with any album I don't really like.

Can't think of many I've encountered where I really think they suck...

I remember after picking up "The Soft Bulletin", I was really into the Flaming Lips, so I thought I should og listen to "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots". Oh lord, did this kill my love for the band. Filled to the brim woth annoying filler, there was seriously only one good song on that piece of crap
