Best band of the decade?

Is it Coldplay? The Strokes? The White Stripes? What's your top 5 list?

None of these are likely to trouble the serious lists of the best of Noughties bands, but they are some of the best that I've heard:

- Arctic Monkeys. Energy & sharp lyrics from such a young band reminds me of the early days of The Jam.

- The Black Angels. A credible modern twist on the Velvet Underground blueprint.

- CSS. Infectious Alt-Disco from Brazil.

- The Decemberists. New discovery for me, but their recent album The Hazards of Love is a blinder.

- The Felice Brothers. Very retro Country-Rock, but brilliant song-writing.

hey, i've heard of css.. are they really disco alternative? i would call them a techno version of reggae.. but i guess that fits.

Genres schmenres !!

I'm not a great fan of tight genre identification. Genres serve a purpose, so that we have some sort of shared frame of reference, but we can't all expect to agree on which small pigeon-hole an artist belongs in.
