Death is hit and miss for me. Ironically, it comes down to the vocals, as the music I generally like. Akerfeldts death vocals on Opeths Ghost Reveries is the perfect mix of being able to understand what's being said and the deep growls, plus he's got a great singing voice when he uses it.

I listen to Death Metal when I want the most extreme metal I can find. So I really don't want any clean vocals at all. To me that's not real Death Metal. But I'm no expert.
