Have a great birthday Paul ! The song is amazing ! Dam shame he is pitifully unknown for the most part in North America !!!!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

its probably mostly his own making that he isnt well known in the US mate...

he publically denounced the US throughout his early career with his socialist views
he refused to undertake "real" tours there also for the most part due to his fear of flying
he wouldnt make MTV friendly videos preferring to make "anti-video" videos back in the day, therefore he wouldnt get airplay on MTV.
plus,Weller's music has always had a uniquely British sound and lyrically themed so the yankees just dont "get it" for the most part.

so i guess he really dug his on grave Stateside early-on.

US late night guy Kimmel is a huge fan though and gets him on his show whenever he tours there

i think he has realised his stupid pig-headedness over the last few years and tries to promote himself over there, but its all too little too late i guess

i mean the guy has knocked back OBE's,CBE's and even a knighthood from the Queen...fair enough, thats his call, but maybe in years to come when he looks back on his life and career he may just wished that he took accolations(but he not LOL)

Weller begrudgingly accepted a "lifetime services to music" award a few years ago because it was his dying fathers wish to see him "awarded" during before he passed away.

stupid thing is...apert from the obvious(bealtes, who, kinks, small faces etc etc)most of his music influences go back to labels like Motown,Stax,Atlantic...
also artists like Dr.John and the old black jazz/blues guys from America, so go figure????
