Bio - from allmusic
A five-person a cappella group based out of Arlington, Texas, Pentatonix are best known for winning the third season of NBC's The Sing-Off in
2011. Formed by high-school friends Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, and Scott Hoying, the group got its initial start after its version of
Beyoncé and Lady Gaga's "Telephone," recorded for a local Glee-related contest, started garnering attention on YouTube. The band then added
members Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, renamed itself Pentatonix, and auditioned for The Sing-Off. Standing out for their unexpected stylistic
range, which found them covering songs in such styles as electronica, reggae, R&B, dubstep, and more, Pentatonix ultimately won The Sing-Off
performing Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." They released a debut EP, PTX, Vol. 1, in 2012.

Album Review - from digital journal
A capella vocal group Pentatonix released their newest extended play (EP) "PTX, Vol. II" on November 5. They were the winners of the third
season of NBC's "The Sing-Off."
Their new EP opens with a cover of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us," which Pentatonix makes their own.
It is followed by the catchy "Natural Disaster" and "Love Again" is one of my personal favorite tunes on the album and it has a great dance vibe
to it.
"Hey Momma" is another cool track, which includes a medley of the Ray Charles classic "Hit The Road Jack" blended in towards the end, which
makes it even more remarkable.
Their rendition of "I Need Your Love" would put a smile of British songstress Ellie Goulding's face.
Their "Daft Punk" medley consists of upbeat electronic dance tunes such as "Get Lucky" and "One More Time."
It closes with a cover of Swedish House Mafia's "Save the World" and "Don't You Worry Child." This track is offered as an exclusive bonus track
on iTunes.
Overall, the new Pentatonix EP is a real treat and definitely a keeper. It's amazing what this group of vocalists can do using their voices as
their sole musical instruments. It garners an A rating.
