concept albums

just wondering what everyones idea of what makes a concept album?

is it a group of tracks that form a story...like The Wall?

or is it a group of songs that have a common thread of similar themed songs....like John Cash's "ballads of the true west"?

in my opinion it is both of these.

I think you're right that it can be either, but I prefer the ones with some sort of narrative thread.
