the Alamo

this might be one for Music Head to answer...being American!

ok, i just watched The Alamo(john wayne movie) and cant help but think at just how accurate it is. i guess im asking.....

did Travis leave any documents/diaries of what was actually happening in the leadup and through the conflict?
or
we know about the war, 185 volunteers vs Santa Anna'a 5000+ Mexican soldiers, so why did no Cavalry ride to protect the Alamo?

geez man I don't go back that far.
I'm sure I've seen this movie at some point, and probably others recreating the event.
Couldn't even guess on the questions.
I'll theorize the cavalrys tanks were in the shop.

You can always ask Phil Collins. Apparently he's obsessed with the subject.
