VAN MORRISON ~ Remembering Now

Wowzer - here's Van on top form. Coherent (which I don't seem to recall apropos the last new album I tried listening to), soulful and seemingly inspired! Sounds like he's gone back to whatever formula he had going that worked so well for him way back when. He's certainly gone back to writing love songs - even has a track titled "Back to Writing Love Songs". Well good - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The production is nice and clean - I like to be able to hear the different instruments, and he has a host of supporting musicians and ensembles in the mix. It kinda carries you along on a rather pleasant wave, I found. He's in a nostalgic mood and seems to have found a second wind! I might pick this one up - to my surprise.

There are some gorgeous bright strings, arrangements that complement the songs and voice, and I especially enjoyed hearing the unmistakable sound of the Hammond popping up here and there throughout the album. Most of all, my ears pricked up at a certain track - the violin. Turns out it's the lovely Seth Lakeman! He plays on three tracks but this is the standout, for me ...

I also liked "Stomping Ground" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjuHz2mwTjc, and this beautiful little piece ... "The Only Love I Ever Need Is Yours"

i find it strange that some artists i can separate the person from their opinions and enjoy the music yet others i just cant get passed the opinions and attitude
sadly Van is in the letter group for me...

glad you found one that seems good for this late stage in his career, just wishing Neil Young could please me just as much Sad

A mate of mine who lives a couple of houses down from me is a big Van fan. I am sure he will love this album. It's getting rave reviews here in Ireland. I was listening to some of the tracks in the car a few days ago. Sounds really good. A return to his roots. This is my favourite Van track. Superb piece of work. https://youtu.be/FnVnIKTWhNs?si=G8OwxuwnUetXQDJI

This takes me back to 'Flamingo Road'...
