UK TOP 100 SUMMARY & REVIEW 27.12.24 #13
THE TOP TEN:
At 10 Elton 'Steps Into Christmas' with a huge sales boost, at 9 'Do They Know It's Christmas' jumps into the top ten. 'Santa Tell Me' doubles in sales to 8, and Clarkson is 'Underneath The Tree' at 7! The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl tell a 'Fairytale of New York' as they soar to 6; Bobby Helms does a 'Jingle Bell Rock' up to 5, and Brenda Lee repeaks at 4 with 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.' Tom Grennan achieves a new peak of three with 'It Can't Be Christmas' as Mariah Carey is up to 2 with 'All I Want for Christmas Is You,' and gaining the number one single to end 2024 and getting their 10th week at the top spot is 'Last Christmas' by Wham!
NEW ENTRIES:
92 - Driving Home For Christmas - Dasha (5.5/10)
Released as a Spotify single, the naturalness of the guitar and the country-pop Christmas flow well as a remix and a cover. I prefer the Chris Rea version over this, but this is still decent; it's quite hard to mess up these kinds of songs.
89 - Here Comes Santa Claus - Gene Autry (5/10)
The 1950s Christmas-country song charts for the first time but fail to sound like anything different from the classic Christmas songs of their time. I mean, what do you expect? This was just boring for me.
84 - Hallelujah - Pentatonix (5/10)
This sounds like some snooze church choir song, but there's a claim that people think this is about s*x and not a Christmas song; whether it is or not, I'm not going to go into that... The song has the group members sing over the song, which definitely has nothing to do with Christ (What's with modern media taking Christian stuff and turning it non-Christian?). Anyway, the rhythm goes faster, and they match quite well to it with the high notes and the more allegro pace; it's just not that special for me.
77 - Merry Christmas (Please Don't Call) - Bleachers (5/10)
The piano and Jingle feel blurred along with the male front voice, and it's just something that fades quickly and doesn't do a good job. It's supposed to be a melancholic indie pop ballad, though it just fails to get me in the mood that it tries to.
71 - Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas) - Bing Crosby (6.5/10)
Mele Kalikimaka (Hawaiian for Merry Christmas) is a song recorded with The Andrew Sisters written back in the late 1940s that embodies the old seasonal spirit that I love! I love listening to older music that has that feel, and this has exactly that! Its groove is just great!
70 - Christmas Time Is Here - Vince Guaraldi Trio (5/10)
Featuring in the movie 'A Charlie Brown Christmas,' the jazz on this with the piano is what I really like to hear! It's soft, gentle, and peaceful on the ears, which is what I love to hear, and it's fitting of the Christmas spirit.
62 - O Holy Night - Celine Dion (6/10)
It's been a while since I've heard the name Celine Dion come up in a conversation; I'm actually glad this has charted too! Celine knows how to make a classic even better, and she has a beautiful powerhouse of a voice! The vocal hold and stability are insane! It really gives off Celine, and that's the most part that adds her twist to it.
