The Decemberists have a new album due for release next Friday - As It Ever Was, So Will It Be Again. I've been hovering around the teaser tracks and just not getting to post any.
This one is a full blown epic and seems to be much more complex than anything I've heard from them before - it segues into a good solid rock ending. As always, with Colin Meloy at the helm, the focus of their material tends to be historical - this is about the vision that the Maid of Orleans purportedly had, and which led her to mount her crusade. Kind of fascinating - the whole story. To be very unromantic, one does wonder what a modern medical diagnosis would have made of her! I once read a thoroughly engrossing book about her but forget now who the author was - long time ago! Blood curdling times - humans can be so terribly cruel. Not a lot has changed! Anyway ... here it is ...
