sixth studio album...
ive been on board the train since MH recommended them a decade ago...
alt folk, folk pop/rock...
not as synth driven as the previous couple of albums...
far more acoustics, pianos, strings and orchestrations on this one...
again, lovely melodies...
big surprise for me was the appearance of Peter Gabriel on the second last track singing the final chorus of the song, he has championed this band for a number of years and covered a track or two over the years so i guess it does make sense in a way...
the opening track (age of anxiety) was written prior to covid but then all the lockdowns started and the band decided to explore the whole 'anxiety' process, the album is in two distinct halves, the first half is about loneliness, anxiety, abandonment etc and the seocnd half is about freedom, re-engagement with loved ones etc, so it is a storyboard for the whole covid-19 pandemic i guess...
all up, another good album from one of the reliably good modern bands.
