Huh! Have to say it was quite refreshing to listen to what turned out to be a footstomper of an album. Some good solid rockin’ on here. Again – there is seldom anything new under the sun, but it is eminently listenable nonetheless. You can rest easy in the knowledge that there are no missteps, even if it has all been done before, in one degree or another; it’s a relief is what it is! Excellent musicianship, variation and texture, a decent voice and all of that but without pretentions, interestingly enough – not completely OTT which I suspect Bonamassa might be inclined towards if given free rein. Or maybe that’s not fair? I think I might inclined to such pretentions if I had anywhere near his ability!! Anyway – IMHO the album is extremely well done – Kevin “Caveman” Shirley producing most ably and Anton Fig on drums - two of SA’s favourite erstwhile musical sons.
Quite energising, this release, an eclectic mix of sometimes anthemic rock and blues, erring heavily on the side of granite
. Possibly ten minutes too long, or maybe my attention span is ten minutes too short! Might pick it up for when the cobwebs need a good blasting - more effective than a feather duster!
Some picks - in order since we are talking about things horological ...
