NEW ALBUM: David Byrne "American utopia"

DAVID BYRNE  "American utopia"

Spotify listen:

album starts off with Byrne warbling with the same vocal tones Neil Young has nowadays...
it then gets all upbeat and sounds like Bowie on his "earth-ling" album...
shades of Talking Heads throughout the album, but not enough to confuse this with his
former band...
slight hints of Roger Waters slower material on here also...
im again, hearing Bowie on "bullets", has the same eel as the tracks off "lazerus" for me...
im even hearing Ray Davies overtones on "dogs mind" (but I  could be mistaken?!)....
musically, im hearing almost what they call "world music" at times, and a jazz fusion also...
you guys seriously need to hear this album, I think youll love it...
Ruby, Jerome, MH, SteveO...
sorry about the language guys but IMO this is f-ing brilliant, my favourite album of 2018 to date!

my favourite track isn't available so heres the solitary one that is available:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

The track also reminds me of Arcade Fire ! (what happened to them ) ? I loved the Love This Giant album with St, Vincent (2012). American Utopia looks very promising Crazy Mate ! I noticed that all the songs are written by Byrne and Brian Eno ! I also didn't realize Byrne was from Scotland ! Always thought he was American !

Thanks for the post Crazy mate ! Now I have something to look forward to musically !

if I remember correctly, Byrne and Eno have collaborated quite a bit over the years SteveO.

So strange how tastes differ! I listened to the album CH – sadly, it didn’t do anything for me. I can see how it might, and obviously does have appeal, but for me something doesn't quite compute. I thought he sounded a bit like Dave Cousins on the last track which I’m sure he’d be mortified to hear! Ssshhh. Lol!!

Could just be me being all grumpy and jaded, of course!  Blush Confused

either fortunately or unfortunately I believe that is simply David Byrne...
I don't think he intends to please people, but he follows his muse with each outing...
he will never please all of the people all the time, and frankly my dear, I really don't think he gives a damn...

but seriously Ruby, I thought this one would be right up your alley, im now hesitant to have given Jerome a shout out
for the album now.

^I don’t think anyone should be hesitant to give shout outs when they’re enthusiastic about something. There’s just as much chance of it striking a chord as not – pun fully intended. Cool  I was curious to see what he was going to get up to, but I think I might've had my fill of Mr Byrne, which as you say, won't faze him in the slightest! Lol!

enters the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart this week at #3

courtesy of Spotify

didn't know Byrne had that many albums (9)
not sure I've heard any other than with Eno
thumbs down on that one
hate it when I disagree with my Aussie brother
but we gotta be honest with each other
this is too arty for me
not unexpected from Mr. Byrne

only track I really like is below
and the performance may have ruined that
