You know what I find interesting about that? The music that those young people are buying on vinyl - where do you think they first heard it, making them decide they wanted to buy it? I'd be willing to bet that it was on iTunes, Spotify or YouTube. A few might have heard it on radio. So much for streaming services and digital downloads killing off the music industry.
Those streaming services are playing the same role in 2017 that radio played in the 20th century. Some radio stations paid royalties, but artists would have received next to no direct remuneration from radio stations. Nevertheless, it was because of radio that fortunes were made in the music industry. Indeed, there are stories of artists or their agents actually paying DJs to play their records.
