I think Joan hit the nail on the head with her comments.
I was speaking to my mum earlier today about the award as she is a huge Dylan fan and she pretty much said the same thing as Joan Baez...
also, if the award had to be given to a songwriter, there would be no one else I could name who would possibly deserve it, he is/was head and shoulders above every other lyricist in the music industry,
there will never be another Bob Dylan.....

^Oh, I dunno - he managed to spellbind people with that nasal twang â great use of inflection too! At least thereâs no mistaking who it is, and I absolutely adore âOne More Cup of Coffeeâ, for example â he does the whole cantor thing so well on that. Pity there arenât clips on YT.

'Her folks they said our lives together, sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's home-made dress, Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough'
'Sara oh Sara, whatever made you wanna change your mind
Sara oh Sara - so easy to look at, so hard to define' (my absolute favourite line of his)
'You know news of you had come down the line
Even before you came in the door
They say your Father's house has many mansions
Each one of them got a fire-proof floor
Snap out of it baby, people are jealous of you
They smile at your face but behind your back they hiss
What's a sweetheart like you doing in a dump like this'
'You're a man of the mountains
You can walk on the clouds
Manipulator of crowds
You're a dream twister
You're going to Sodom and Gomorrah
But what do you care
Ain't nobody there
Would want to marry your sister'
'Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
And don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command'
The only guy who came close to this in terms of lyrics was Sixto Rodriguez.

its a shame Sixto never went any futher than the two albums he released...
and shame it took a documentary about him to make people prick up their ears and listen....
also, there you go bob_32, Jerome found a link to a track off "infidels", give it a whirl mate.

I gave it a whirl.
My reaction was the same as with nearly every other Dylan song. Good song, it just needs someone else to sing it.

I can understand why you don't like his voice. It took me quite a while to get used to it. He's not a great vocalist but his lyrics are so powerful that it does not really matter who delivers the words.

Sir Bob is a lyrical and poetic genius! The award is well deserved! He has no equal in music lyrics!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
