Help solve an argument?

A friend of mine and I were arguing over whether Rise Against is a true punk band. He says they're completely hardcore punk. I say that they're pop punk, if that.

What do you all think?

For the record: I'm not saying I dislike Rise Against. They're a great band with lots of talent. Just saying they don't really fit in the punk genre in my opinion :wink:

I think of them more as rock than punk - but definitely not hardcore if I had to choose

Defo pop punk, in proper "hardcore" punk, you can barely understand the words they say, and generally is distorted.
