TJ Lubinsky Ring any bells? The mover-and-shaker, the Grand Panjandrum of the music specials the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) puts on at pledge time. Starting in 1998, there have been 30 of them covering nearly every aspect of popular American music from the '40's on. He also loves
Dr. Who and brought episodes never before shown on American TV to the US, and put together the DVD package of this delightful, engaging show. His wiki has a list of all the music shows:

Bringing this back because Mr.Lubinsky has gotten the rights to a terrif show originally on NBC: Motown 25. So named because 1983 was the 25th anniversary. Available as a DVD or DVD/CD package--kinda pricey and Amazon doesn't list it but if you want it, here it is:

I'm more about the '70's and '80's and he did a good'n there, hosted by Whoopie Goldberg. I couldn't find this package on the secondary market; get in touch with your local PBS station or maybe Mr. Lubinsky directly:

Thanks for the compliment. It's all too easy to get swept up in the excitement of the new and the now, and forget American music's history and those who made it. And as importantly, those who produce and present. My little give-back. Now I don't know about his dad but both his uncle and grandfather were strongly in radio and his granddad founded Savoy Records, presenting R&B and jazz to the world. That said, that grandpop (Herman Lubinsky Sr.) was not a man you'd want to do biz with--a greedy, arrogant bully who was always and only about the dollar. In bed with the Mafia--he was depicted under another name in
The Sopranos.

I notice Dr.Who was mentioned early on in the thread....
I'm a huge fan of the franchise,not so much the newer ones but most certainly the 1970s/80s series'
I only watch the modern ones where the villians are the Daleks and on occasion the Weeping Angels.
The problem I have with the new ones are that each story lasts an hour not much to get your teeth into.
The old ones were 30minute episodes which ran over an average of six episodes.
That said, its still hard to knock a series that is still running after some 50+ years...longevity speaks volumes on its own for anything beit actors,musicians etc....
