Hey Guys! - Electrophonic Tonic - 01-07-2011
I was a constant poster on the official Led Zeppelin forum for a few years, and on and off pretty recently. And I was the last registered member of a Beatles forum called "Nowhere Man" before it closed a week after I arrived. :laugh: So, I've been looking for a music forum to be a part of, and this one looks like a winner to me.
I would like to think my musical tastes are pretty broad
Rock:
-I LOVE classic 70's progressive rock and (ironically) 60's garage rock/proto-punk. I would have to say King Crimson is my favorite band of all time and my 'first band', Led Zeppelin, is still very near to my heart. Other artists I really like include Link Wray, The Sonics, MC5, Fleet Foxes The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Black Keys and many more.
Rap/Hip-Hop:
-I was one of those people that despised the genre, even though I never gave it a chance. It's was listening to Beastie Boys' works beyond Licensed To Ill (Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head...) that helped me turn the corner on rap. Most of the acts I like are closer to the underground scene. I really like Public Enemy and The Roots. But my favorite rap group has to be Dälek (pronounced 'dialect'). They've toured with Tool, are big fans of the Melvins and made an album with Faust. Yes, THAT Faust :nod:. They are currently featured in my avatar.
Jazz:
-I took a jazz history class in college and I really helped me to appreciate and love a genre that always interested me, but I never perused. Miles Davis is probably the artist I've listened to the most. In a Silent Way has some of the most peaceful music ever recorded and Kind of Blue is perfection and stands head and shoulders above anything else in modern music. I also like Art Blakey and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Country:
-I really like Johnny Cash and his live albums are incredible. But, beyond him, I haven't really been able to enjoy any other country. Maybe I will learn to do that here...
I think I've ranted enough... haha
Anyway I hope to teach and learn more about music here. Cheers! :clap2:

Probably my favorite era is the Larks/Starless/Red era. But the original In the Court/Wake period is also great as well.

Discipline is a great record. Beat and Three have their moments, but I don't enjoy them nearly as much. As for the newest stuff (Thrak, ConstrucKtion and Power to Believe)... they're very good records from the limited exposure I've had to them. I've really wanted to sit down and really get to know them better, but it's hard to pry myself away from King Crimson's other works haha
My absolute favorite track by KC has to be Fracture. I also find it a great litmus test for future prog rock fans. If someone can sit through the first 8 minutes of meandering and incredibly slow build up, they are rewarded with the final 3:30 assault be Fripp and Co. Certainly in my journeys listening to prog, I've had to tell myself several times "You must learn to deal with the prog" and "Prog=Patience". Fracture is just a great example of that concept and a damn good tune at that.
