Originality of music - Syn - 10-07-2008 What is original music to you? Something you have never heard before? Something that has never been done before? Does it even exist? Originality in film is become rarer and rarer, is this happening in music? Thoght, Feelings Etc.... Syn Originality of music - Tiggi - 11-07-2008 In my opinion, original music has to be anything which is pretty much unlike anything I've heard before. This is obviously a subjective view, and could differ quite radically from someone else's viewpoint. Originality may not always mean good, though. Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music is probably unlike anything that went before, but I've yet to hear of anyone that's heard it who thinks it's any good. Two of my faves that I would put in the category of Usually Original would be Radiohead, & Bjork. Originality of music - bryce - 16-06-2009 originality is dependant on what you've heard. and sometimes a copy band is better than the original... but if you get too many of the same and it gets hard to tell the difference then it gets over done and un original. thats what i hate. sorry but some bands are just ruining it for other bands by imitating sounds. each band should seek an original sound, not a one hit wonder! Originality of music - Drealm - 29-07-2009 I think that its not to try to do never-before heard music, or to try a new mix of styles, because almost everything have been done. I think it's more the originality of the personnality of those who compose the music and how well they express it. Someone could do an existing style, but with so mush ideas and creativity that you simply enjoy it! A good example I can bring here is Dead Can Dance: they do a kind of world music, but in some unique way that you recognize them. It's funny because the other day my friend and I were discussing something: If a really rich man announced that he will give 1 billion dollars to the person who will come with a new, never before heard sound in music, WHAT THE HELL would be the sound of the winning song???!!!! I wish something like this could happen! Originality of music - Bev Stayart - 29-07-2009 This is a very interesting question. Something that appears original to one person may not seem that way to someone else. It is all subjective, depending on the particular listener. Originality in music is becoming more rare, just as originality in films is disappearing. It is almost impossible to discover a film with a new theme, as most have been used dozens of times in the past. Diminished originality seems to have impacted both film and music over time. Sometimes I wonder what will be music in 50 years? Everything will be so overused; but even if we come to the absolute lack of originality, there will always be people to express their feelings via music or films. I think it will be for us to search new ways of seeing things instead of originality. There will always be different kinds of people, so for ever can a new person express a feeling his own way. Originality of music - bryce - 01-08-2009 you just brought up something else though... new people just means music doesn't have to exactly change. it just means that these new people have to think they are hearing originality. lol. truthfully though.. if you never listen to anything old then all new music sounds original and good. which is very common with young people. My thoughts exactly - everything works in cycles. |
