pink floyd news - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-01-2011 from NME: Pink Floyd have ended a dispute with record label EMI over the use of their songs online. The band, who originally signed to EMI in 1967, have now signed a new contract with the label. They had taken EMI to the High Court over the dispute in March 2010, with a judge ruling in the band's favour. EMI have now confirmed that a new deal between both parties has now been signed. "All legal disputes between the band and the company have been settled as a result of this new deal," a statement from the label read, explaining that the company aims to "help the band reach new and existing fans through their incredible body of work". The deal will last for five years, reports BBC News. The initial dispute related to a contract between Pink Floyd and EMI that had been negotiated in the late 1990s, which stated that the band's songs should not be sold individually without their prior permission. The band argued that the rule should apply to download sales in stores such as iTunes as well as CDs. EMI disagreed, claiming the word "record" in the band's contract applied "to the physical thing". Representatives for Pink Floyd successfully argued their case in court, though Pink Floyd will still be sold individually on iTunes. pink floyd news - Tiggi - 05-01-2011 Downloading individual Floyd songs is sacrilegious !! pink floyd news - Jerome - 05-01-2011 Most of Floyd's albums are conceptual in nature and cannot therefore really be listened to by playing 1 or 2 tracks from an album. It would be like watching a movie and only looking at the scenes you like instead of watching the whole thing. The entire narrative would be lost. For ONCE I don't think it's a money-making exercise (although some of their compilations definitely are) - this music needs to be listened to as a whole or not at all. End of sermon. pink floyd news - Tiggi - 05-01-2011 Amen to that... pink floyd news - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-01-2011 i agree, of the four albums i own(division bell, final cut, the wall, dark side) there is no way i can listen to individual tracks, its all or nothing pink floyd news - Jerome - 06-01-2011 YOU DON'T OWN 'WISH YOU WERE HERE'!!! I forgive you my son. Now go and repent your sins. Seriously though, Meddle and Obscured by Clouds are worth a listen. pink floyd news - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-01-2011 ive got a mate who is a floyd-ophile and i have heard the ones you mention Jerome but they dont do anything for me,sorry? who knows, all of our tastes expand and refine with age etc so i may at some point get them....at the moment im getting 'into' southern rock bands thanks to MH...something else i never gave a second thought to 12 months ago pink floyd news - Jerome - 08-01-2011 Not to worry - each to his own. you mention southern rock bands. Last night there was a rerun of 'Easy Rider' with that classic tune 'The Weight'. It's dated but I enjoyed it tremendously. A bit of a laugh really. |
