Well, at the beginning, I liked a few of their songs and thought they were okay. A few years later, I discovered people considered their work genius or "arty." Songs like "The Black Angel's Death Song" were considered brilliant, and I looked at them and simply thought they were pretentious (have you HEARD it? It's horrible). But recently, I looked deeper into them and found a lot of genius and innovation with their work. I found Heroin to be impossibly amazing and Venus in Furs is just a bad ass song. That's my story with this band. I would like to hear yours. Tell me what you think.

one of the most influential bands ever.

The Velvet Underground - Tiggi - 22-12-2010

At their best, I love them to death. Never dull IMHO.

Only albums I've got are 'Loaded' & 'The Velvet Underground', the latter of which is awful. Criminally, I'm still to hear the famous 'Nico' album.

One thing Lou Reed done I'm a big fan of is 'Metal Machine Music'. Approach with caution.

im not a big lou reed fan, although i was attracted to New York album in the late 1980s, i love that one,ive also got his best of set, double cd, i think most of it is rubbish,
i know millions of people like what he does but it just doesnt gel with me, i do think that i a book of his lyrics was released i would purchase it because he is clever with words and stories.

^ That's a shame, Lloyd. I think Transformer is a fabulous record.

Of course we can't all like the same music, but I'm surprised you're not more drawn to Lou.

They are brilliant, especially songs like 'Heroin' and 'Sweet Jane'. Have got the Nico album - if it's the one with the banana on the front. Will have to check out the other albums though.

i dont know why im not drawn to him enough to buy his music because i love his lyrics, like his voice and his guitar playing, so it is all there for me to like, one day something will 'click' and i will pursue him a bit more.
i wish i knew why im not into his material or Cohen when i love Nick Cave????
