This looks interesting Gryphon, I'm a big fan of The Red House Painters. Proposing a new link for you to put up as that one wanted me to wait '560 seconds'.

Week Forty Five......Admiral Fell Promises.......Sun Kil Moon - Thraak - 12-12-2010

Been listening to this beautiful album this afternoon about 3 times over already. Couldn't place it at first but I think its sort of a cross between Red House Painters and Bon Iver, also sounding quite jazzy at times. I would do a review but I don't have a lot of knowledge of these musicians or the band apart from the fact the mainman Mark Kozelek used to be in a band called 'Red House Painters' who are also very good.

Heres the most memorable track of the album for me:

This is perfect music for chilling out to on an uneventful, cold and dull Sunday.

Thanks Gryphon! Confusedmile:

Sun Kil Moon…………………………..Admiral Fell Promises

I loved the atmosphere of the cover on this album and immediately I wanted to know more about this collection of tracks.
Sun Kil Moon is a music project of singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek, best known for his previous band Red House Painters. Sun Kil Moon sees Kozelek undertake the writing, composing, singing and guitar playing, accompanied by Tim Mooney and Anthony Koutsos on drums, and Geoff Stanfield on bass. The band is named after Korean lightweight boxer Sung-Kil Moon.[2] Thanks Wiki !

Track One Alesund Guitar played with a delicate hand and a feeling heart starts this album. This feels like a guitar master class and would not have been out of place on a Windham Hill album ……………….The vocal only adds to the excellent start . So far, this album is giving me goose bumps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Track Two
Half Moon Bay….Brilliant, wonderful guitar and wistful lyrics …………This man know his craft and has a God given talent !

Track Three
Sam Wong Hotel To me, finger picking has always been the way to play an acoustic guitar, put this together with a gentle voice with a little bit of a buzz in the lower register and you have the classic sound that Sun has made his on this album

Track Four
Third And Seneca: Another nice track played with feeling. I love the guitar work in the middle section: it could stand up as a track on its own!

Track Five
You Are My Sun: A love song ! There are slight overtones of “You Are My Love” By Liverpool express here but I feel it is co-incidence! Again there is a semi-classical solo at the end which is delightful !

Track Six
Admiral Fell Promises: The title track: I started to wonder who Admiral Fell was and why he had had such and influence on Sun! This track as a wonderful folk feel to it and could have been written by Donovan or Nick Drake at the end of the sixties……………………..

Track Seven
The Leaning Tree: Faster tempo and a lighter emotional feel ………………….I have to be honest I’m reviewing this as the sun rises and I’m looking at a rose and purple sky as the sun rises and this music is just perfect for the mood ! Sun has learnt a nice trick in his writing: he is not afraid of changing direction in the middle of one of his songs and this can have most dramatic affect on the feeling he can create ……………………..

Track Eight
Australian Winter: Gentle melody, easy thinking and a slow pace of life are all illustrated in this guitar tone poem………………………………………

Track Nine
Church Of The Pines: Another classic!

Track Ten
Bay Of Skulls: All too soon , we reach the end! A melodic end track, which re-enforces the beauty in the other tracks.

It is a pleasure to find someone who can play a guitar with feeling and has the skills to make the instrument sing and dance in their hands. He plays a great sounding guitar and it is joy to hear the sound rise and fall, to ring and sing and deliver ecstatic music The only weakness in my eyes is that the vocals tends to be a little less defined in the mix than they should be. If you read this Mark…….come tour he Netherlands ………………………….I would love to see you live!Cool
