Legendary ska act The Specials have been talking about recording new material.

The iconic UK band broke up in 1980 after recording only two albums with their original line-up. They reunited in 2008.

Drummer John Bradbury told BBC6 that he felt the band stopped in their prime, and are still yearning to make new music.

Singer Terry Hall agreed that they were 'overworked and couldn't carry on' at the time.

But now, after the huge reaction they got from the reformation, he lamented that they've been playing the same set.

So he suggested that they'd head back into the studio.

He said, 'And we think going forward is a healthy thing to do. We've discussed things that will take us on a slightly different route. It will be different to what we've done, just because it has to be really, because we can't keep doing the same set.'

Hall said of new recordings, 'We need to combine elements of what we've done before with what we've always wanted to do.'

fantastic 'ska' band from late 1970s early 1980s, terry hall went on to front 'fun boy 3' which failed to achieve the same success in the uk as the specials, nevertheless they were an interesting band.
after terry hall left the band they changed their name to 'special a.k.a' and had several minor hits in the uk, they did have 1 huge hit 'nelson mandela' which was produced by elvis costello, got to no.6 in the uk and no.1 in australia and new zealand, not sure of US chart position, maybe music head could enlighten me/us

Great news, hopefully their new material wont be anti-climatic.

Love that song but don't think it ever did much over here, nor did the group.

thanks, i didnt think any of the uk ska groups of the time did much in the Us, the beat, selector, bad manners, madness(except 'our house' after they lost their ska sound), the songs wer too 'english' to make an impact anywhere else but england. the jam,sex pistols and early elvis costello were the same....very 'english'

agreed, i'd be a bit hessitant of buying their 'new' material, they were part of a 'period', if they dont recreate it theyll get slagged off for not being as good as they were, likewise, if they do recreate their old sound, theyll cop the same criticism for being stuck in the past.
im so glad the police havent returned to the studio, their one effort 'dont stand so close to me 86' was abysmal
