'the white album' - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-08-2010

ok, i havent been here long so i dont know if its been covered in a thread but goths reply in my 'sgt pepper' thread got me thinking:

if the 'white album' was a single lp what tracks would you have on it? out of interest of course
ok, i'll start off...

1 .back in the ussr
2. dear prudence
3. glass onion
4. while my guitar gently weeps
5. blackbird
6. dont pass me by
7. julia
8. birthday
9. yer blues
10.everybodys got something to hide...
11.sexie sadie
12.helter skelter
13.revolution 1
14.cry baby cry.

ok, thats 14 of 30 tracks....maybe if it was a single album instead of a double album charlie manson and the manson family would only be half crazed psychopaths(if thats possible?)

I wouldn't change it. Haven't ever really understood the complaints that it needs pruning.

For me it tends to alternate with Rubber Soul as my fave of theirs.

Sorry that doesn't answer your question...

'the white album' - gryphon - 30-08-2010

I guess I go along with Tiggi......................I like it the way it is .It has its strong points and its weak ones .........If it had been reduced to just one album, then that would leave a whole album of out takes that all Beatle fans would clammier to hear..................as it is , we can hear four different personalities at work in Abbey Road and again it is 1968 when it came out and it was a radical new step...................double albums were not at all common in the world of popular music

i have no arguements with you guys at all, it is my favourite beatles album, along with 'abbey road'. true, the album really hones in on what the fab4 were to become as solo artists. theres no way i would change it either. it was just, as i said, an idea after goths comments regarding 'sgt peppers'. i also like the way it was a plain cover album, total contrast to 'peppers' collage cover.

although please answer the following for me:

was it rocks first double album?

'the white album' - gryphon - 31-08-2010

The first double album was Benny Goodman's Live at Carnegie Hall, released by Columbia Records in 1950.[citation needed] The first rock double album, and first studio double album was Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde in 1966,[1] also on Columbia, although at the same time the Mothers of Invention (featuring Frank Zappa) were preparing the double album Freak Out!, released six weeks after Blonde on Blonde.Cool

thanx for that, just learnt something

'the white album' - goth metal raver - 31-08-2010

Blonde on Blonde was the first rock double album - and in my opinion it is far superior to the White Album. I'm something of a fan of Bob Dylan though.

And don't get me wrong, there's a lot of good stuff on the White album.

However the three albums Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Pepper are pretty perfect I think. White album's not quite as good. Just my opinion

And in reply to the question:

1. Back in the USSR
2. Dear Prudence
3. Glass Onion
4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5. Happiness is a Warm Gun
6. I'm so tired
7. Blackbird
8. Birthday
9. Yer Blues
10. Mother Nature's Son
11. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
12. Sexy Sadie
13. Helter Skelter
14. Long, Long, Long
15. Revolution 1
16. Cry Baby Cry

I admit that possibly that's still more than a single album. But that's the album without the filler I think.

'the white album' - Music Head - 02-09-2010

off topic but it got me to thinkin'

What is the most recent studio double album?

Is any artist or label that brave anymore?

'the white album' - Tiggi - 02-09-2010
