Gaining Confidence for Playing live - TheRiverLot - 17-02-2010
Whats up everyone? I am really yearning to play out. One downfall it will be just me and my acoustic guitar, not my old band behind me. I am having doubts in myself, but I really think I should just get over it and play out, I have videos on youtube of some of the tunes I am doing if anyone is interested (go to youtube and search Sam Williams Come together) I love playing and singing, even though I am not the best at either, I am craving some live action like playin out again....Any advice?

Hey TRL, nothing is as great as playing for people. I often think it's like a drug...highly addictive. Really, the biggest hurdle is to get out and do it. To warm up and with the nice weather, you could go to a beach, or park or somewhere 'public', sit on a grass and start playing. I've done that and it's amazing how many come up and listen or talk and even if they don't, just to be out in 'public' playing is fun. Perhaps your local community allows or supports busking, or local businesses might be interested in having you come and play.
Loving playing and singing is the most important part...sharing your joy of music with the world is fantastic!

I agree 100% it is like a drug, and is addictive, I love it. I am just begining to start playing out again, and its sooo refreshing and an extension of yourself, your soul, and all you got... I agree you dont have to be the best at what you do, but as long as you love it and give it your best, that will show...very good stuff!

Just like most things in life, if you're confident people will 'buy it.' So even if you are having some technical performance issues, play with heart and people will be in to it!
