how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-02-2025 im curious about the cost of take out coffee where you all live. here in Western Australia it is around (on average) $7 AUD which equates to around: 3.50 GBP 4.25 EU 3.00 USD 81.2 ZAR RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - Ruby - 18-02-2025 Around ZAR35 to 45 CH, depending on milk, etc. My daughter is a barista and her boyfriend manages his family's coffee shop and roastery so I'm a bit spoiled in the coffee department! Lucky me. RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-02-2025 daughter and partner run a coffee shop, you must truly be in heaven LOL Lynne and I are both lactose intolerant so our coffees cost a bit more because of the lactose free milk. RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - JeromeD - 19-02-2025 Depends where you buy it. If you go to Starbucks/Costa Coffee etc. (which I avoid like the plague - a complete ripoff) it can cost around 5 or 6 euros. If you buy from a local shop around 1.50 or 2 Euros. Coffee at work is around 1 Euro. I live in the west of Ireland but the east is considerably more expensive. Coffee shops are more lucrative than bars in Ireland. Best coffee I ever had was in Carcassonne, France. It was ridiculously cheap and they provided some chocolate-coated nuts to go with it as well. Slightly off the beaten track - I got some take-out from a local takeaway recently. The place was packed and there was quite a queue so I placed my order and walked across the road to a nearby hotel and ordered a drink and watched some ladies football (they're better than the men and don't act like prima donnas) while I waited for my order. A Bacardi and Coke cost 16 Euros. I seldom go to a pub these days but I was shocked at the price. RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-02-2025 speaking of Starbucks Jerome.... one opened up around 15kms (10miles) from us a year or so ago and Lynne and I decided to go there a few weeks ago to try it. probably the worst coffee we have ever had, grossly overrated and overpriced, it was also a Public Holiday (bank holiday) and they had a 15% surcharge to cover the higher rates they have to pay staff on holidays WTF, i have never come across that before here. BTW best coffee i had was in a little coffee place in Utrecht, Netherlands, well maybe the coffee wasnt that great but the THC that came with it was pretty good for a 17 year old LOL RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - JeromeD - 19-02-2025 Hey CH - here in Ireland these 'surcharges' and compulsory tipping and all that other crap that restaurants and coffee shops are coming up with are backfiring spectacularly. Most of the people I work with have simply stopped going to these places completely. The end result is that those establishments that are not ripping people off are getting more business. Just love it when Karma kicks in. And I agree - Starbucks is the last place I would go for coffee. BTW I have been to Utrecht myself - a beautiful little town. Went to one of the churches there and they had all these Afrikaans surnames carved into the floor of the church. Many of the original Dutch settlers in SA came from that area. RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-02-2025 the Netherlands was a beautiful place when i was there back in the 1980s, i believe they have lots of issues with refugees there now, as does most of Europe. im sure would have gone to the Van Gogh Museum whilst in the Netherlands (or Holland as we used to call it), brilliant place, i got a real appreciation for his artwork there. i was there in November, so i missed the fields of tulips, sadly. right back on track LOL: tipping is not compulsory here but tip jars are usually found by the tills where you pay. i obviously knew the Dutch/SA connection but wasnt aware many came from there, i guess i have learned my little tit-bit for the day, thank you, i can now put the brain into sleep mode until tomorrow LOL RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - Music Head - 19-02-2025 $2 probably triple that at Starbucks RE: how much is a cup of coffee where you are? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-02-2025 thanks. did we get Starbucks when we were on our travels??
