NEW MUSIC FRIDAY SUMMARY AND REVIEW 17.01.25 #15

GBP - Central Cee/21 Savage (5/10)
Tough British street rap returns, and I’m not really complaining. They both rap well together and have no trouble making a beat. The problem here is that everything just sounds as dull as can be. It's not something new from them; it features reused verses, the vocals feel too familiar, and it's lacking impact. The production is also basic—not bad, just simple. I can respect the Lyrical Lemonade video, though, because those shots were fire. But this track misses the mark and doesn't leave me eagerly awaiting Central Cee's upcoming album.

Dare U - NLE Choppa/Imagine Dragons (1/10)
AAAAAAAH, MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!! Imagine Dragons lets out the most ear-screeching "MeEeEeE" ever; it’s shockingly bad. Somehow, Choppa actually had the better verse for once. The two acts don’t match AT ALL, and don’t even get me started on the vocals—did they think it sounded cool when they squeezed out a verse that sounds like they had a voice crack? I didn’t know these two lacked experience so much that they were capable of creating an absolute dumpster fire of a song. This contends for the worst song of the year.

Funny Papers - Mac Miller (7/10)
This is a very cool drop. The keyboards and drums create a new sound in the music industry and give a strong reason to listen to Mac’s new album. The lyrics are well-picked, and the whole song rushes with creativity! A pleasant listen.

Slow Motion - Marshmello/Jonas Brothers (2/10)
This is one of the blandest radio-pop hits I’ve ever heard in my life. It's so flavorless and generic that I’m in shock. Not a surprise, though, since it’s from these two artists.

Rushmere - Mumford and Sons (7/10)
Set to release a 10-track album, the rock-folk group creates a feel with "Rushmere." On one hand, it has the background that you can hear at the start of Northern Altitude by Noah Kahan, and on the other, it has a consistent guitar and drum background. This ticks all the boxes for me and feels complete.

Keep Me Satisfied - Jungle (5/10)
Well... uh, it's on the line of acceptable. It just feels like it doesn’t compare to their other recent works and lacks the addictive components of Jungle’s music, making the whole dance song sound meh.

Midwest Kid - Michael Marcagi (7/10)
This sounds like a song that Sam Fender would fit on, with its drum pattern and clever production positioning. It’s much more flavorful than your average Marcagi beat. Good on him for making something like this.

Everything Changes (But I Won't) - Rose Grey (9/10)
This made me feel like I was slowly lifting up into the sky. The vocals are heavenly, and the song is made for the mind. This is a must-listen.

It’s A Mirror - Perfume Genius (4.5/10)
I’m not going to clown on this, but I really just think it’s not exciting. In fact, I showed zero emotion toward it. It’s the kind of indie rock I don’t get why people like.

Blackhole - Architects (6/10)
Despite some of the lyrics sounding like ChatGPT wrote them, this is actually a quality song—especially for someone who's not into scream-rock.

Ankles - Lucy Dacus (4/10)
Too basic and boring.

Take Me By The Hand - Oklou (5/10)
Co-written with Cecile Believe, this song talks about life's hardships in a slow, voice-modified way. It's not for me, but anyone who’s looking for something to chill out to or just sit and stare at will find this perfect for that.

Bovine Excision - Samia (6/10)
The story behind the song title is wild ?. The track itself is more peaceful than the title suggests.

Spawn! - Evan Fong (7/10)
Synth-punk always provides a different sound from the usual, and this doesn’t disappoint in creativity or skill. It sounds like something fit for any generation with a unique edge and spark. The modified sounds work well. Love this!

Pose For The Pic - Che (0.5/10)
A new contender for worst song of 2025! The vocals are so fried that I couldn’t understand a word. Turns out it’s just rap lyrics about lust, gangsta vibes, and the worst autotune attempt ever. How do people listen to this and say "fire" or "hard"? Those people probably start dancing when they hear an old TV breaking. The editing was so bad I’m shocked. Each line was cut off in the next. Someone actually said, "Song of the year, not even glazing." WHAT THE HELL, dude, you have issues if this is your song of the year.

Rebel Heart - IVE (8/10)
Rare footage of a K-pop group making a LEGENDARY song! It gets stuck in your head after one listen and has a fast, catchy hook that makes you hit replay. Huge recommendation from me ??

Love Is Unkind - BANKS (8/10)
Addictive and flawless—a great song!

Limerence - Lucy Dacus (6/10)
