UK TOP 100 SUMMARY AND REVIEW 20.12.24 #12 - Mellope - 21-12-2024 UK TOP 100 SUMMARY AND REVIEW 20.12.24 #12 THE TOP TEN: At #10, Fairytale Of New York takes a small drop. Heading to #9, Santa Tell Me sees a big boost in sales for Ariana Grande. At #8, Jingle Bell Rock slides down, while Messy manages to push past the competition, climbing to #7 despite the presence of Christmas songs. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree jumps in sales but still slips to #6. Apt sees ROSÉ and Bruno drop one spot, and It Can't Be Christmas by Tom Grennan makes a major leap, climbing 7,000 in sales and landing at #4! Starting the top three is All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, but its sales boost isn’t enough to overtake That's So True by Gracie Abrams, which holds steady at #2. Finally, securing the Christmas #1 spot for the second year in a row—and notching its 9th non-consecutive week at the top—is Last Christmas by Wham! --- NEW ENTRIES: #85 - Indigo - Sam Barber/Avery Anna (5/10) Previous First Listen: Serving as a track from Sam's album Restless Mind, this country song features a guitar-driven beat complemented by drum rhythms. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stand out much, failing to market its own sound effectively. It’s just quite boring and feels lacking in many areas. Second Listen: Still a snoozefest. --- #37 - Freezing This Christmas - Sir Starmer And The Granny Harmers (6/10) This song is a diss track targeting Keir Starmer, standing up for elderly Britons unable to afford heating. It’s raised over £35,000 for charity and topped the sales/download charts. Sampling Lonely This Christmas by Mud, it adopts a slow, older tone that fits the message. While the track serves a good cause, it feels more focused on the parody and message than the music itself. It’s missing something to make it truly their own. --- #31 - Dirty - KSI (3/10) Previous Listen: Dirty is KSI’s latest single, following Thick of It (featuring Trippie Redd) and Low. Rumors suggest the unnamed female singer on this track might be Billie Eilish. The song feels like an attempt to regain fans after Thick of It underwhelmed, but it’s even worse. Sure, it could work as a chill driving song, but it comes across as a cheap imitation of Billie Eilish. Even as someone who doesn’t enjoy Billie’s music, I find this lacking. --- RE-ENTRIES: #99 - MAYBE. - Sienna Spiro [After Christmas, this song is poised for a massive jump... oh boy.] #94 - You're Christmas To Me - Sam Ryder [Legendary!] #93 - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 [Just shut up.] #91 - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Bruce Springsteen [Annoying.] #84 - Push 2 Start - Tyla [I don’t care.] --- NOTABLE CHANGES: Songs that fell over 10 spots: #100: Austin - Dasha (Down 14) #96: Peggy - Ceechynaa (Down 17) #90: 2 Hands - Tate McRae (Down 10) #88: Empty Out Your Pockets - Juice WRLD (Down 27) #79: Burning Down - Alex Warren (Down 11) #74: Bad Dreams - Teddy Swims (Down 52) [HIGHEST FALLER] #73: Squabble Up - Kendrick Lamar (Down 19) #65: The Door - Teddy Swims (Down 46) #64: Ma Meilleure Ennemie - Stromae/Pomme (Down 13) #39: What Is This Feeling - Cynthia Erivo/Ariana Grande (Down 10) --- Songs that rose over 10 spots: #86: Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow - Frank Sinatra (Up 14) #80: Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord - Boney M (Up 16) #75: Stay Another Day - East 17 (Up 20) #72: Stop The Cavalry - Jona Lewie (Up 15) #71: Run Rudolph Run - Chuck Berry (Up 13) #66: Holiday Road - Kesha (Up 19) #62: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Frank Sinatra (Up 13) #59: Christmas Lights - Coldplay (Up 12) #57: Santa Baby - Laufey (Up 25) #54: DJ Play a Christmas Song - Cher (Up 19) #53: Mistletoe - Justin Bieber (Up 11) #33: Merry Christmas - Ed Sheeran/Elton John (Up 12) #30: Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade (Up 13) #18: Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney (Up 10) --- BEST AND WORST PICKS: NEW ENTRIES: BEST: Freezing This Christmas WORST: Dirty OVERALL TOP 100: BEST: The Door - Teddy Swims WORST: Peggy - Ceechynaa NEXT WEEK'S PREDICTIONS: Possible new entries from Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry. |
