NEW ALBUM: KATHERINE PRIDDY ~ The Pendulum Swing - Ruby - 17-02-2024 KATHERINE PRIDDY ~ The Pendulum Swing ![]() Brilliant. Katherine Priddy is a breath of fresh air. Her songs are properly crafted – carefully constructed, with great lyrics, and never overwrought. The Discogs summary of the artist says it succinctly … 'Katherine Priddy is a dream weaver, a hypnotic storyteller and fragile performer who encapsulates the rich and often solemn side of artists gone by such as Nick Drake and John Martyn, delivering each word with a genuine warmth and charm.' A young folk/acoustic songwriter from the heart of the British countryside. Ghostly harmonies, haunting melodies and words weaving strange tales... https://www.discogs.com/artist/3514177-Katherine-Priddy A lovely release – there is varying tempo in the pieces, albeit fairly subtle, which helps maintain interest, and the album is neatly bookended with the brief and whimsical epilogue “Returning”, and the prologue, “Leaving”. There is orchestration on top of her acoustic guitar although the guitar features, as it should, and my first impression is that the mix is good. Not sure about the credits as I can’t find them just yet. She’s articulate, obviously well read (given the references in her songs), and she can write. Here’s a link to her blog - https://www.katherinepriddy.co.uk/blog/ I especially like that her words are clearly discernible, added to which she has a pleasant, unaffected voice, and yet to me, although these sounds are generally gentle, they are not boring. No trickery and nothing even remotely crass - timeless – I think that would be an apt description. Nothing not to like IMHO. A couple of choice tracks ...
