okay, so it seems a bit early to start posting 2023 releases i purchased but this year has been a bit topsy-turvy with lots of semi-personal things to deal with on one level or another and on the workfront things have changed so i thought i would post when and where i can.

second album from UK alt-pop singer Freya...
a solid collection of songs with a bit of a Florence & The Machine and Adele vibe...
song themes are mainly about lost love and broken relationships...
sound is quite uplifting and poppy though for the most part with a couple of slower ballads in the mix...
only issue i have is that upon first listen the songs sound all much of a muchness but upon subsequent listens their warmth and glory shine through beautifully...
much better than what the chart stats actually say IMO...

Lumineers feature on one track (long way to go), First Aid Kit on another (kids in love) and Chris Stapleton on one also (just say im sorry)...
very good album as always from Alicia Moore.

their 24th studio album, first album in 7yrs but first featuring new material since 2005...
a surpringly solid album, lots of solid Stones-esque riffs and a couple of slower bluesy numbers thrown in for good measure...
lots of featured guests here from Lady Gaga to Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney and more...
good to see they used some previously unrelease drum work from the late great Charlie Watts too...
now im not a huge Stones fan but i like them and this album has no filler IMO...
its only rock and roll but i like it....
BTW, the title, Hackney Diamonds, that is cockney slang for broken windscreen glass (an issue in the London suburb of Hackney)...

has a really lovely voice for the style, dulcet is not a word i use often but it applies to Laufey's vocals for sure...
one cover on here, Johnny Mathis' "misty"...
only problem with the album is that there is little variation in sound from one track to the next...
but that said it is a pleasant listen from start to finish...
one of those albums you can have on in the background without spoiling what is happening around in the foreground...

a solid album but not as good as the debut for me..

songs have a distinct Chris Isaak vibe vocally and musically..
tracks are all rooted deeply in the 1950s, theres even an uptempo rockabilly one in the mix...
album is a concept album about a troubadour named Sanchez who falls in love with a woman who happens to the wife of a mob boss.
Mob Boss takes offence to this and does what a crime boss would do, erase his wife's new flame...
an excellently written, performed and produced album, sure hope the music bosses do not try to change young Sanchez and quell his obvious God given talent before he blossoms into a great artist, great stuff which means....

real R+B/soul on here which is why i purchased it...
for me, the album starts off real slow and does not really get going until about the halfway mark,
not saying that is bad, just an observation from repeated listens this last week...
a pleasant listen but needed some more 'oomph!' in the songs IMO

so, written and recorded remotely during those crazy covid lockdown times by the three CH members...
three songs each and three songs sung by each of them...
Neil Young filled in with a track as requested...
strictly Americana sounding songs...
wasnt overly keen on the album when i first heard it but i knew it would be a grower with more listens...
album has grown on me now is by far the best thing NY has been involved in over the last 15-20 years IMO...
