laptop/computer anti-virus - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-01-2023
just wondering what anti-virus software you guys use for your technology and which ones you have used and do not recommend?
the reason i ask is because i just renewed my McAfee anti-virus and it was such a drama to just renew my subscrption.
firstly, they were more than happy to take my money LOL (no surprises there!)
then when i get the confirmation email to begin the process the update needed to reconfigure my laptop (no surprises there)
after that, around halfway through the installation i received a 'warning' message to contact McAfee customer service (which i did)
i was then given a link to download a "McAfee software install helper" (which i did) and which did install the update.
i guess the questions i have are (if anyone is computer literate more than me, which would not be difficult) LOL.
why wouldnt the updated subscription install automatically (i am running windows 10)
and why did i get 'warnings' and why was an additional "software installer" be required to something that had been working perfectly fine up to that point???

I had to get a new laptop recently, having drowned my old one – inadvertently. Hadn’t even had a sip! Sad, but the point is that if you have Windows 11, which is what this one came with, there’s a built-in anti-virus, which my very helpful tech guy (who I trust implicitly) assures me is perfectly adequate for my purposes. He actually removed one of the others that I had thought I needed (and didn’t) and that was interfering with a few operations. Maybe see if you can upgrade? What do I know? I can find my way around some software and that’s about it!
