NEW ALBUM: David Bowie "toy" - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-01-2022 courtesy of Deezer: first up....thats one heck of a creepy cover! secondly, on with the album... was recorded in 2000-ish, shelved because he decided to record what would be "heathen"... songs on here are modern re-recordings of early career tunes from the early-mid 1960s but modernised for the new century... i dont know the originals and probably not many do so these are new to me and probably you too... songs are straight forward soft rock/pop/easy listening songs, Bowie sounds happy and content on here and the bands sound is uplifting also... a respectful album that does not diminish his legacy at all, but neither does it add anything to it, just a nice collection of feel good songs for the most part.. musically, most of these songs would fit on "heathen", "reality" or "the next day".... all up, this album is worth a listen to hear David Bowie letting down his hair and enjoying himself singing simple straightforward soft rock. favourite from the first listen. up there with "wild is the wind" for feel, emotion and vocal quality IMO There's a man back a-ways Who believes at where he is And there's a girl Up ahead who says she knows And the street overflows With the folk who understand For the guy who can't be seen He's the Shadow Man And the Shadow Man is close at hand Take a turn and see his smile Made of nothing but loneliness Take a walk and be a friend To the Shadow Man You can call him Joe, you can call him Sam You should call and see who answers For he promises to come running, guided by the truth For the Shadow Man is really you Look in his eyes and see your reflection Look to the stars and see his eyes He'll show you tomorrow, he'll show you the sorrow Of what you did today You can call him foe, you can call him friend You should call and see who answers For he knows your eyes are drawn to the road ahead And the Shadow Man is waiting round the bend The Shadow Man is waiting up ahead Shadow man Is waiting up ahead Is waiting up ahead |
