NEW ALBUM: Jackson Browne ~ Downhill From Everywhere - Ruby - 25-07-2021 JACKSON BROWNE ~ Downhill From Everywhere Mr Browne has always commented on the state of things and this album continues that trend. He's just less vociferous and much more laidback than he has been on some past issues. Personally, I'm preferring non-political, non-issue taking music right now. We know all this stuff - everything is in everyone's faces all the time and I think listening needs to be a break from that - I guess that makes me somewhat biased as regards this one.  That said, it's not unpleasant to hear at all though - nicely put together and most ably executed - I haven't really paid too much attention to the lyrics tbh - filtered them out to a large degree. Does that make it easy listening? I wouldn't necessarily rush out to buy it but also wouldn't sneer if it leapt out at me and will probably give it another whirl, to be fair. He's made less worthy albums in his time IMHO. No Lindley here - some nice harmony vocals though, by Chavonne Stewart and Alethea Mills - not sure who does what. It's a gentle album - a little careworn methinks - nothing to set the world on fire but also a bit of a relief in the grand scheme of dire present releases. About four years after the Exxon Valdez oil spill I heard a radio program where they were talking about the danger of single-hulled ships. The insurance companies were refusing to cover them after 2004, which would force all these ships to be decommissioned. Only double-hulled ships would be allowed on the open sea to prevent that kind of catastrophe from happening again. What went off in my mind was, wouldn’t it be interesting to see where these massive vessels will be taken apart. It would be a study of humanity and the skill it takes to dismantle these things. I looked upon the shipbreaking as the ultimate in recycling, in this case of the largest vessels ever made. RE: NEW ALBUM: Jackson Browne ~ Downhill From Everywhere - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-07-2021 ^^ i did see a documentary a few months ago about the ship dismantling in Bangladesh... such a dangerous job in those parts with no safety rules in place... those folks put their lives on the line every time they go to work, and for the few pennies they earn a day it is criminal considering what the companies they work for make from scrap metal!
