STING & SHAGGY  "44/876"

Spotify listen:

well I didn't see this one coming and I most certainly didn't expect it.....!
an album between the ex Police frontman and the reggae rapper....
I guess both based their early careers on the sounds of reggae so a common ground exists...
this album works, and it works a treat...
good to hear Sting getting back into a reggae jive, something he forgot how to do after 1985...
I always loved Shaggy's deep vocal sounds also...
a surprisingly good album and one for the 'to purchase' list for sure...

^^Found the answer. Those are the country calling codes for England and Jamaica, respectively.  Smile

ive been reading a lot of reviews of the album from experts and also the opinions of Sting fans....

this is causing as much division as the whole Metallica/Lou Reed experiment a few years ago, with people either loving
or hating the project...

I guess time will tell whether it works commercially or not...

give the album a listen guys, I want to know what you all think of it...!

^Since you ask so nicely … I wasn’t crazy about the title track CH but just listened to the album and to my surprise – I quite liked it.

Reminds of Sting’s collaboration with Ranking Roger which was very fab – going way back. His and Shaggy’s voices provide a great foil for one another, it seems like a slick production, and most importantly, it sounds as though they’ve really enjoyed making it – well produced but nice and loose – something of a lark and a break from earnestness for Sting. Huh! Who’da thunk?? Also calls to my mind Linton Kwezi Johnson (maybe for obvious reasons, i.e. Shaggy’s baritone and the rhyming) – someone I’ve not listened to, or thought about in many a moon.

As you say, Mr Sumner always did have reggae leanings so it kinda makes sense. The rendition of “Love Changes Everything” is a revelation I could have lived without, but I expect that's because I’m most decidedly not an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan. Just goes to show – you can fit pretty much anything to a reggae beat, lol!! On the whole, I’d say it’s fun, and not to be taken too seriously – no deep critique.
