What music do you like/dislike?

I'm in my early 20s and some of my tastes are evolving. I listen to Nightwish, Queen, Pink Floyd, Tori Amos, Alicia Keys, Anathema, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, Apocalyptica, Susanne Sundfor, Earth, Wind & Fire, Over The Rhine, Portishead, The Doors, Styx, Black Sabbath, Alcest, Amorphis, etc. It also depends on what I'm in the mood for. I like piano, violin, and cello in my music as well as decent guitar playing, some 70s to 80s Prog Rock, some Classic Rock, Soul music, some Post Punk, and some Metal on occasion.
I'm not a fan of In Flames, Cannibal Corpse, Lil Wayne, Drake (I listen to some Rap/HipHop, just not them.), Indie music is an acquired taste, and I don't listen to much on the radio either.

I'm not familiar with Steven Wilson's solo work, but I like some of what I've heard of Porcupine Tree so far mainly In Absentia and Deadwing. I'm not sure about their last album yet.

I always tell people that Porcupine Tree is like the old fable of the blind men and the elephant. Each had a different impression of what an elephant was like, depending on what part of the animal he had encountered.
You could hear an early Porcupine tree album and think "this is a trippy psychedelic band with some overtones of Pink Floyd". You could hear another and say "This is an art pop band with some progressive influences." You could listen to a third and say "This is a prog metal band, with more emphasis on the prog than the metal."
All of these things would be true, and reflect Wilson's need to constantly evolve and not repeat himself.
The first PT album I heard was Fear of a Blank Planet (yes the title is a homage to the Public Enemy album), and I think that one is still my favourite.

I agree, I haven't heard Fear of a Blank Planet yet but I definitely will give it a listen when I find that album. I like the different flavors and influences in their music. Porcupine Tree's one of those bands that has a genre defying style which makes them hard to categorize. Cool stuff, IMO.
