Paul Simon "stranger to stranger" - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-06-2016 ![]() Paul Simon "stranger to stranger" Spotify listen: ok, im not really a big an of his music as a rule, but I did love "graceland" and "rhythm of the saints" albums... this was a deliberate pick as opposed to a random pick because I deserve to hear something new that isn't terrible after the last few ive listened to... some nice drum/percussion rhythms on this one, not unlike the above two albums I mentioned.... there is some of the old melody sounds in there... I wouldn't call it rap but there is a bit of rap style ghetto stuff happening on a couple of tracks... one instrumental on here and one track called "the clock" which is, for the most part., the sound of a clock doing what a clock does.... I think hes trying to be too clever and relevant to the modern music scene just like McCartney with his last effort called "new", and IMO, and like the Macca album theres only three maybe our tracks I like.... it doesn't work, it just makes them look like fools stumbling around in things that they don't belong in... not really my thing but Paul Simon fans may embrace it. from the album: live version on "later....with jools" and interview Paul Simon "stranger to stranger" - Music Head - 14-06-2016 enters the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart this week at #3 Spotify spin 13th album and first in 5 years I have his first 6 but lost touch after that probably the first one I've heard since Rhythm Of The Saints left me kind of dry highly percussive on most tracks good to see him in this studio gig Paul Simon "stranger to stranger" - bob_32_116 - 14-06-2016 For what it's worth, the reviewer from The Australian gave it 5/5 stars. "wristband"...MH's linked track is getting a air bit of airplay on ABC-720 bob-32, that track is starting to grow on me a bit! Paul Simon "stranger to stranger" - bob_32_116 - 15-06-2016 I have only heard "Wristband", so I can't rate the new album, but nothing he has done since his first two solo albums has enthused me very much. None of the tunes seem anything like as interesting as the songs he was writing when he was with Garfunkel. I suppose Graceland was ground-breaking at the time, though it's not true to say he was the first non-African to introduce African rhythms to the rest of the world - he just made it fashionable. Neil Diamond was doing it some years beforehand with the album Tap Root Manuscript. I always thought it was rather curious that most of the songs on Graceland, which sounded musically as though they could have come straight out of Soweto, had lyrics that were nothing to do with Africa or Africans. |
