online Spotify listen:

Bruce Springsteen "we shall overcome: the Seeger sessions (american land edition)"

ok so I didn't listen to the whole thing just the five extra tracks on this re-release,
which also contains the show and backstage footage on a bonus DVD.

Springsteen bakced by a seventeen piece folk band...thought youd never see that,
well you do here, superb stuff IMO!

I borrowed this from the local library. Unfortunately the disc was crap (the disc itself, not the contents), which is probably why it ended up at the library.

The oddest thing about it was that the original issue, despite the title, did not actually contain any music written by Pete Seeger himself.

I was pleasantly surprised by Springsteen's rendition of We Shall Overcome, which can sound like a dirge in the wrong hands.

that's true bob_32, Seeger didn't write the material, but a lot of the songs were popularised by Pete Seeger.
in fact I think from memory that most of the tracks were classified as "traditional" so no writers were credited,
Springsteen was, however, credited as "song arranged by Springsteen".

ive had the album since it first came out, mine was the deluxe version with bonus dvd,
and I have never watched it, ive only seen clips on YT, which are very good,
looks like The Boss is having fun.
