I always liked Santana but never really needed an album of theirs until a few years ago when I picked up the compilation "The Ultimate Santana". For someone like me, this is probably all I need from them - a very comprehensive selection from their earlier and later periods, including all, or nearly all, of their big hits.
As for the new album, I have heard the single, and it's good, but so similar to Oye Como Va (which, I hasten to add, is one of their best songs) that I am wondering if Santana IV offers anything new for someone who already has, say, Abraxas.

I wouldn't consider myself a fan or otherwise of Santana as ive only heard a few tracks, I wont base an opinion on a dozen songs from an artist of such longevity.
Abraxas was recommended to me by someone on this forum a while ago, when I find it I will purchase it to see what all the hoopla is about them.
if I don't find it by years' end I will consider purchasing "the ultimate Santana" instead

I've been a Santana fan for a loooong time, and when he came out with Guitar Heaven a few years back, I was severely disappointed. A lot of his playing now days is just 'phoned-in' noodling using the same old worn out song structures. I saw him live not too long ago, and had that same feeling. I get it though, he's aging and he doesn't have the chops like he used to. I won't be running to the store any time soon to grab this new one, and I hope I'm wrong about having lost faith in his abilities as a musician. As for his best work though, I'll agree with what was posted above, but also add "Blues For Salvador" and one of his live albums "Sacred Fire: Live in South America". The latter being something I throw on Chromecast on a regular basis, and it has one of the best versions of Black Magic Woman ever recorded live. Those percussionists (Raul R.I.P. and Karl) are on point! The entire show is well worth a listen.

as or your other tracks linked...
1. the signature tune....has a bit of a Knopfler feel, especially early on
2. 'inner secrets' track....again a slight Knopfler feel at the start, I like the change halfway through, sounds like it belongs on a Style Council album
3. a commercial effort.....has a bit of a Phil Collins vibe
4. "i love you much too much"....never heard it before, nice guitar work, you wont get no argument from me as to his 'wielding the axe' capabilities

Yes Plankton!!! An incredible live album! For the most part I prefer live albums however their Woodstock performance and Abraxas still blows me away!
