the charts are not true charts anymore! - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-12-2015

the singles charts are not true charts and haven't been for some years now because "streaming" has allowed
non-singles to be listed in the singles charts...
this is not just the UK(where I have taken this from, but all over the world.)

If they have to use 'streaming' to calculate a chart then the RIAA, ARIA, BPI etc etc should use two chart systems,
1...a real chart of singles, and
2...a digital and/or streaming chart.

im skimming over the UK charts and Bieber is totally dominating the charts at the moment,
it doesn't just happen to Bieber, a lot of artists get results like this now, especially the big ones, but this is
how they stand at the moment with Bieber being the example I use.

18 of the top100 so-called singles are by Bieber....
even The Beatles and Elvis Presley in their peak periods could not match this feat, but back then "singles were singles"!!!!!

#1..."love yourself"
#2..."sorry"
#4..."what do you mean"
#16."i'll show you"
#25."company"
#27."where are you now"
#33."mark my words"
#34."the feeling"
#38."no pressure"
#41.purpose"
#46."children"
#50."no sense"
#61."life is worth living"
#66."been you"
#75."we are"
#77."get used to me"
#89."trust"
#91."all in it"

agree with your thread title
however
when you say streaming do you mean downloads?
when I listen to a new album on Spotify that is called streaming, right?
but that can't be considered a purchase

also
there has to be a hard date that the industry made this switch
no way you can compare sales figures before and after that change
of course they do, but they shouldn't, without an asterisk

Streaming means listening to music online ie: sites like Spotify....

Spotify listens counted towards the singles chart in the UK in July of 2014....
now, I may be assuming this, but if the UK do it, then I suspect other countries do it also...
so with this being the case, it would be technically possible and plausible that a song could reach #1 on the charts without actually having one solitary sale behind it?!?!

heres the relevant article from the BBC dated June 23rd 2014:
http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-27924176

as a footnote:
I only discovered this about streaming counting towards the chart figures a couple of weeks ago when it was revealed that Adele would not allow her album "25", or tracks off it to be streamed and the UK media pointed out that "hello" made it to #1 on actual physical and digital sales without the aid of sites like Spotify....
