Shinedown "threat to survival" - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-10-2015 ![]() SHINEDOWN "threat to survival" so-called metal/hard rockers from Jacksonville,Florida... album is sort of a cross between Creed and Nickelback for me... theyre "alt rock" IMO, but this album has charted on various 'hard rock/metal' charts over the last couple of weeks and 'allmusic' call them metal also, so who am I to say what they are... all I know is that this album is very melodic if it is metal(of which I doubt very much!)... all up an album of genuine rock from a band I had not heard of until a couple of weeks ago, yet they seem to have released a good handful of albums so far.... from the album: "it all adds up" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leyCyYePHTs vevo audio and the current single from the album: "cut the cord" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9itwt_opsvQ vevo video Shinedown "threat to survival" - Music Head - 02-10-2015 enters the Billboard chart this week at #6 gave this a Spotify spin I agree with CH allmusic says they have mellowed out for this one I guess they were harder prior to this first listen of the band for me also it was ok like this one Shinedown "threat to survival" - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-10-2015 I forgot to add.... "terrible album cover art". Shinedown "threat to survival" - uncle salty - 19-10-2015 Ok, I'm gonna jump in here and, respectfully, defend my boys. Like their previous 4 albums, they have a bit of everything on their 5th. I don't understand how people are surprised by the wide musical swath these cats cut with their 5th studio album. I own them all, and probably a dozen unreleased cuts. I'm no casual listener, I'm a fan. But, I'm not a blindly loyal, love everything they do fan. They have a crap cut on this cd, same as the first four. Misfits is just sugary offal. Their music is all over the board, with an eclectic flavor that has a little bit of something for anybody who cares to take the time to listen. They have songs that are straight metal. Songs that are straight pop. Songs that are metal with downright 'top 40' poppy choruses. This band's Achilles heel is their diversity. That is, for the people who have a need to classify a band's music into a certain genre. Kinda like the age old Green Day isn't punk debate. The fact is, Green day has some punk sounding songs, so people have this need to label them. Getting back to Shinedown... they can't really be pinned down to any one genre, so all I ever hear is 'they're not this' and 'they're not that'. No, they're not 'exclusively' anything, but they're a really good band. I don't need to go any further than 'I enjoy their music.' Shinedown "threat to survival" - Jerome - 19-10-2015 Generally, when a band cannot be 'pinned down' to a particular genre or style it means they have a broad array of skills. They can therefore write in many styles and it shows a degree of musical intelligence. Not many bands have that. Shinedown "threat to survival" - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-10-2015 Good replies Salty and Jerome.... I think I posted in the original post that this was the first time I had heard of them... What I don't get though is if the album is a straight rock album, which it is, then why does it chart in the "metal charts" as its not metal...? That seems to be the question, for sure. I have a pretty extensive knowledge of Shinedown, and I've never read any interview with anyone in the band (past or present members) that says "We're a metal band" If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say the people that categorize the bands work for the music industry. And as this is a site for people who love music, I don't need to explain the difference between music and music industry. Shinedown "threat to survival" - SteveO - 23-10-2015 Shinedown always top the hard rock charts! Very good band indeed! I am beginning to believe that metal is an overused genre now! Many so called metal bands are multi genred,,,Opeth, Dream Theater, Burzum, Negura Bunget, Devin Townsend, Anathema, Steven Wilson...and so on and so on! |
