I'm pretty sure no one was as hard a taskmaster as Ian Anderson with Jethro Tull....he demanded perfection in playing and I read somewhere once that anyone who played with him could basically name their own price when working with other artists because who they worked with after JT/IA knew they'd get perfection out of than so....
There's nothing wrong with being a perfectionist in your occupational field, its all about setting standards and maintaining them.

I have to disagree with you SteveO....
By his own admissions he has released a lot of half finished songs because he couldn't be bothered adding final touches to them.
Also several albums were released unfinished.....
Most notably "McCartney", "ram", "mccartney2", "press to play", "back to the egg".

"Perfectionism" is its own kind of mania... And can sound kinda sterile. "The perfect is the enemy of the good." The middle ground between Ian Anderson and the Grateful Dead works for me.

Well and good, but there is such a thing as over-rehearsing. I like Ringo's All-Starr Band doings and some of that is downright sloppy (in a good way).
