The Left Coast has a deserved rep for emphasizing the cooler, less frenetic side of Jazz in the '50's and '60's (Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Charlie Byrd) though they could burn when it suited. Indeed. Look at who passed through the Lighthouse All-Stars---and all that left (with Mr. Rumsey's blessing) were replaced by Young Lions...and over and over. One of the better training schools ever in how to make your music better, how to do biz, how to conduct yourself, etc., etc.--the very equal of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers
